The Central York Fire Department is hosting a one-day fire ground operations orientation, including elected public officials, community leaders and representatives of the media.
This program will include actual suiting up in fire fighter protective clothing, donning self-contained breathing apparatus and actually going inside a real fire to experience firsthand the environment in which firefighters work. On your day as a firefighter you will get to ride a fire engine with lights and sirens, conduct a victim search in a smoke filled building and feel the heat of live fire, you will perform defibrillation on a victim of cardiac arrest, you will perform a water rescue in our flotation suits. you can take pictures of the Cities that you proudly protect from 100 feet off the ground from our Aerial/Platform apparatus, you will cut victims out of actual cars using our extrication tools and much more. Sounds exhaustive...it is! Each adrenalin-filled moment will give you a small taste of firefighting. Obviously, this will be a controlled situation but will never the less provide an opportunity to see and feel what firefighters face every day. It promises to be a very exciting and informative day.
